Dear family,

One week ago today I had a stress test, after which I had a pretty serious
conversation with the cardiologist, who was quite concerned about
blockages in my coronary arteries. I have since switched to a cardiologist
that I trust more, had more examinations, most recently yesterday a
diagnostic cardiac catheterization at Yale New Haven hospital.

The good news is that, though I have blocakages, my heart muscle is in
fine shape with no damage that can be detected. The bad news I learned
yesterday was that the blockages can not be corrected by angioplasty and
stents. The only solution available is bypass surgery.

I am scheduled to have the operation this coming Tuesday morning. Dr.
Richard Shaw will perform the operation. He is the surgeon that performed
Dad's bypass surgery, and comes very highly recommended by everyone from
Dad to the cardiologists to the nurses I saw yesterday. He is very
comforting and positive about the outcome (less than 1% chance of
complication). This will happen at Yale New Haven. Between Mom, Dad, and
me, we have been spending quite a bit of time there over the last few
years. Dad is poking around Yale for the "family rate discount!"
Hopefully this will be the end of the family visits for a while.

In any case, I am confident in the outcome, the hospital, and the doctors
involved. I believe I am in the best of hands. The facts are that these
folks do this every day, and the results are ovewhelmingly positive. So, I
will be laid up for while (about a month out of circulation it seems).
Then on to a new life of less fat in, more excerise, and back to work. I
am very glad that this has all been found. I am not particularly looking
forward to the process, but I AM looking forward to being healthy again in
the future.

Please feel free to pass this along to any and all family that I am
missing the email address for (and have evryone sign up for the list
server!). Thanks!

Bob
